DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that Greenwood Township is debt free? Did you know that the township has completed several major projects in the past 10 years and does not have outstanding debt for those projects? Did you know that for taxes payable in 2010, the Greenwood Town Board hopes to reduce the levy request and still provide excellent services?

How can that be?

Very Simple. The Greenwood Town Board is fiscally responsible. The Town Board of Supervisors treats it like a business. A business that is successful! Because Townships do not receive any Local Government Aid (known as LGA) they do not rely on the aid to offset operating expenses. All financial transactions are accounted for by a form of self-audit. The Town Board reviews all receipts, claims, disbursements and investments at the monthly town board meetings. Because majority of the monies the township receives is tax money (including those officers themselves who also pay taxes) they treat it with great respect and work very hard along with the Fire Department to get the best equipment possible for the lowest rate possible. Thousands of hours have gone into research, planning, grant information, quotation requests, etc. Those efforts proved to be worthwhile when some of the accomplishments in the past 10 years:
  • Full System Generator to operate the town hall during power outages
  • Greenwood Trail (partly funded by grant money)
  • Greenwood 2nd Storage Building/Office (partly funded by grant money)
  • Greenwood Office Addition combining both buildings
  • Greenwood Fire Boat #1 (33% Funded by Private Donations)
  • Greenwood Fire Boat #2 (Ordered 2/09 and is paid for)
  • Greenwood Fire Engine #1
  • Greenwood Fire Tender #3 (FEMA Grant for 95% of cost)
  • Greenwood Rescue Truck #5
  • 2000 Polaris 6 Wheeler
  • 2005 SkiDoo Rescue Snowmobile
  • Ford F350 4x4 Pickup with Boss V-Plow (Paid for by service fees)
  • Extrication Equipment (Grant)
The Township has a supportive community and many volunteers who help get the job done. When you pass by a Town Board Officer or Fire Dept. Personnel, tell them thank you for doing such a good job!

Thank you.
